Summer Teacher-Naturalist 2012 General Description This is a seasonal position ranging from 3-7 weeks and 35 hours per week. The position is available for 10 different camp locations in NJ (Oldwick, Bedminster and Frenchtown) and PA (Manheim, Downingtown, Radnor, Berks, Havertown, Upper Gywnedd and Lower Makefield). Depending on scheduling and location, the employee can choose to work at multiple locations throughout the summer. A successful candidate is a reliable self-starter who is creative and energetic with children. A successful candidate must be good with group management.
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent life experience; background knowledge in physical, biological, and/or environmental sciences and elementary education; proven teaching expertise. Available to attend staff training and work all days of employment period. First aid and CPR training a plus. Responsibilities include: 1. Attendance and participation in the mandatory staff training day, and home study of lesson materials; prepared and punctual for each day’s work. 2. Preparation of materials and readiness for teaching from supplied lesson plan; conducting daily activities. 3. Securing of enrollees' registration forms from RNC or Host office before course sessions begin; familiarity with any special requirements or conditions of students. 4. Supervision of Teaching Assistant and all children enrolled in each course session. 5. Proper care of all equipment and supplies; their return in clean, usable, and original condition, except for normal wear and tear. 6. Assistance with publicity for Nature Day Camps in assigned areas, such as distribution of posters, brochures, etc. 7. Familiarity with and proper stewardship of day camp site resources and facilities used. Adherence to any and all park-established rules. 8. Evaluation of courses taught, including daily activities, student response, and suggestions for future improvement. Pay Rate: Seasonal $11-$12/hr
