Frequently Asked Questions
- My child is 6 years old. Which age group is more appropriate?
Although you as the parent know your child’s abilities and maturity level best, we generally recommend that a child who is 6 and has completed kindergarten would be better suited in the 4-6 age group. A 6-year-old who has completed first grade and can read may be more ready for the activities in the 6-9 age group.
- My child will not be four years old until… Is that ok?
In fairness to other participants of the appropriate ages, and to those who may be prevented from signing up in an otherwise full course; and to avoid complaints from parents of other children enrolled, we hold to the strict rule that a child must be 4 years old by the start of the course. We appreciate your understanding.
- What naturalist tools are needed for the course?
None. We provide everything that the children need to fully participate in the activities. We have found over the years, however, that some children like to have their own tools for their use at home, and is the reason we make them available.
- What are the qualifications of your Staff?
Our Teacher-Naturalists are college graduate professionals trained in the environmental sciences and natural history interpretation, with expertise in elementary education. Our Assistants are generally college students studying education, biology, and/or the environmental sciences.
