Jurassic in the Park

Some were the biggest animals to ever walk the earth.  Many sported large horns, spikes and body armor. But some were small, and some resembled birds more than reptiles. Some even boasted two brains! But not all the bizarre and fantastic creatures of the Jurassic period were dinosaurs. The allosaurus, apatosaurus, trachodon were all “terrible lizards.” But the pterandon, plesiosaurus, and dimetron were not. What's the difference? Explore the mystery of prehistory as we conduct our own archeological dig and fossil hunt. Discover how dinosaurs lived, and perhaps why they died; and some of their modern descendents who still populate the earth. Come to “Jurassic in the Park.”

1-3:30 PM   Ages 6-10

PaleoWorld!

It's Jurassic in the Park, Part II! In this episode, the adventures of our budding paleontologists begin with the discovery of mystery fossils in the Tooth, Claw, and Bone Mystery Hunt. We learn how to interpret past events by examining the rocks, minerals, and soils of today, and identify and classify real fossils. This is a week of hands-on science, in which we hunt for ecofacts of plant and animal remains, artifacts made by humans, and features in the landscape that reveal ancient activities. We'll conduct our own paleontological dig, and learn how to record, preserve, and interpret the evidence found.

Underwater Adventures

All the water on the earth, 97% is salt water in oceans.

The oceans of the world are homes to many animals and plants. Lets put on our snorkel and mask and dive deep into the underwater world where we will learn about the denizens of the deep. From the sandy beach out to the deepest abyss, aquanauts will explore all forms of life and the food chains contained therein.

1-3:30 PM   Ages 6-10

Green Generation

This week budding Junior Environmentalists are going to learn about how we can protect the earth by reducing, reusing and recycling. Children  can earn stars for ‘eco’ behaviors such as using reusable water bottles, bringing in compostable items from home to contribute to the group bin, bringing in reusable cloth napkins and containers instead of disposable plastic and using recycling bins at camp.  The best way to protect out Earth is to use our resources wisely making the next generation greener.

Junior Naturalists Outdoor Society: 2011 Passport to Adventure

Newly issued Junior Naturalist passports admit us to exciting and exotic destinations: strange new lands, where we meet and interact with the native residents, enjoy their customs, and learn the concepts of their natural governing laws. Our special expertise assists the inhabitants we meet as we search for a mysterious missing passenger, play Territorial Tag, mediate a border dispute between Open land and Forestland, survey new communities for the Mole Transit Authority and Tree Frog Terrace, and perform other useful exploits on our travels. Each Junior Naturalist receives a JNOS Passport and a Certificate of Outdoor Investigations.

Wildlife Trackers!

The animals are here and they are hidden. We'll find out what kinds of animals live in and around the park, and be on the look-out for them. We'll search for clues they leave: a bird's nest, a hollow tree, a spider's web, chewed leaves, nut shells, footprints, or feathers. We'll go on mini-expeditions, play games to learn how animals hide so well, make plaster casts of animals tracks, feel furs, hear stories and, of course, meet up with some real live animals and learn how to care for them.

1-3:30 PM   Ages 6-10

Wildlife Mission: Incredible

Your mission, should you choose to accept, will be to track down and spy on the mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, insects, and fish of the field, forest and stream. We want to know: What bird comes down a tree head-first? Which animals have built-in drinking straws? Who has teeth that never stop growing? What creature swims backwards? Whose tongue is attached at the front of its mouth? Through live animals and prepared specimens, field observations and new adventures every day, we'll learn the answers to these and more!
